it was my constant idea that to be able to live my student period in Italy ( at that time I had thought of staying only temporary ) in a meaningful way, I needed to contribute as a person who brought with me a different set of cultural values, traditions to the art ambience there. So I dedcided to agree with Prof.Manfredi not to pursue his other means of expressions, the western printmaking technique which he was an expert: acqua forte , dry point etc. who he inherited directly from Morandi.
As a student who had just finished postgraduate studies in Scotland, I treated my stay in Florence as a wonderful period to experience the ambience, singularly to someone who grew up in a then already high tech environment ( Hong Kong ), hence I never even thought of taking exams at the Academy there. But after one year I was surprised to find out that one was not allowed to be registered as an auditing student, and was obliged to take the exams if one were to continue. I did continue and at the end of another four years, I finished the program with the thesis on Marcel Duchamp and Zen- that, also, was my constant belief of how I could contribute my eastern cultural understanding to the western cultural refined world of Art.
But that period of stay prolonged itself - and thirty three years have passed after I enrolled myself at the Academy of Florence in 1983, September
