portraits of Alan, each print is unique , a charcteristic of the process typical of the intrinsic quality of linocut prints, especially under the guidiance of Professor Manfredi
portraits of Gabriel
chinese still life- cooking utensils as subject matter was my first linocut ever made, with each single print being of a different touch, be it color, form, or treatment of overall unity, such as the tinting of the final coat applied to the image, after perhaps some additional touch of watercolor, a...
some figures were being taken away during the process when over abundundent elements seemed to be distractive
This series of multiple images, with each single print being made totally different, due only to touches of colors and the non application of a color on a successive passage - such process gave me new insight on the multiplication of images - no longer identical images would be considered the only a...
each process in this earliest experiment was guided personally by Professor Manfredi
Picasso began to discover linocut prints only at the age of sixty- four, said Professor Manfredi I was so lucky to be guided by someone as creative as Picasso
so at one point after I finished the course, I bought myself a printing press and began to print at home. The subject matter was the wild boars, which I happened to encounter in the countryside, where I rented a studio
I prepared quite a few ink paintings of the wild boars before doing the linocut prints Those were the days that I was delighted to draw all the animals I encountered in the countryside, making stories about them as if they were friends in real life
then one day, the owner decided to sell all his wild boars, kept before in a huge area of land
there were over fifty of them, and the oldest one is named Nonno, the grandfather
the tiny one has only three legs, and so we nicked name him little three legged one
the most dramatic moment was when the grandfather was being put in the cage, to be transported to another place for a future yet unknown
at one point, I had an idea to move back to Canada, especially after the wild boars were gone, leaving me with less interesting subject matter to be inspired with- so a O Canada print was made, in 13 editions, except for artists' proofs, when I was granted Canadian citizenship
if I remember correctly, I must have sent 12 or 13 original prints, with each one being slightly different in the application of colors on the bodies of the blue jays, to Ottawa, Canada to commemorate that occasion
the oxherding sequence was my constant referral as subject matter The boy ridding the ox was a print made during my student period under the guidiance of Professor Manfredi Some prints were being touched up by him, in watercolor. This print with the wildboars was also intervened partially by him, on...

watercolor sketches ( colored pencils with watercolor ) were done for the series of greeting cards, titled Chinese horoscope, realised for Kam's Art Gallery in Hong Kong, a project commissioned by my sister
oxherding sequence, a zen story which I perhaps came across in 1980, during my short stay in London, at the bookshop of Tate gallery ( Thames and Hudson - Zen )
these drawings were preparation sketches for realising some linocut prints, but only a couple were made Such drawings were inspired by a set of old Chinese paintings, which were more detailed in the ways of execution
in search of one's anima, a western way of seeing this zen story was also my young way of looking at things, at that age when I had no worries about anything, except in the making of art
ink drawings or watercolor paintings were mostly done to perhaps suggest further linocut prints
ink painting subject matter suggested by someone in need of such or a simple jotting down of an image which also inspired a quick note of poetic thought

Hong Kong, China, linocut prints with two birds were made after Hong Kong's return to China they are considered to be stamps Then some prints were printed on raw silk, which led to the realisation of a top, with quite a few original prints

linocut prints realised during 1987-1989 during the course conducted by Professor Manfredi, at the Accademia di belle arti di Firenze
as well as some old watercolor drawings, ink paintings etc
It was the period that drawing became once
more the main source of inspiration
drawing anything I saw: animals, plants, cooking utensils, favourite dish, then turning them into fantasy: writing stories about them; the wild boars that practice Tao, the cats that tell their own stories, the camels
in Egypt who speaks to the sheep etc.,
then once in a while, some linocut prints were made
