In two layers

poem by Po Chu-i of Tang Dynasty

Flowers flourish not
Fogs foggy not
midnight arrival gone tomorrow
arriving as a dream in Spring
briefly does it remain
leaving as clouds in Spring
traces not to remain

After you left Spring is gone in half
seeing the sight
sadness within intense

swiping off fallen petals of plum
scattered like snow
swiping off fallen petals of plum scattered like snow
cleaning them off
spilling
all over my body
again
cleaning them off spilling all over my body again

When one is idle
the cassia flowers
are bound to fall
by Wang Wei of Tang Dynasty When one is idle the cassia flowers are bound to fall
Night so quiet
Spring hill so deserted

moon shows its presence startling the pheasants

every now and then
in the flowing midst of stream
sing song
Night so quiet Spring hill so deserted moon shows its presence startling the pheasants every now and then in the flowing midst of stream sing song
raising my head
beam of moonlight
seen
raising my head beam of moonlight seen
by Li Po
on my bed behold
sight of moon so bright
for an instance mistook it it for the frozen frost
raising my head beam ofmoonlight seen
lowering my head
thoughts of homeward dreams
by Li Po on my bed behold sight of moon so bright for an instance mistook it it for the frozen frost raising my head beam ofmoonlight seen lowering my head thoughts of homeward dreams

works shown here were done in Florence,  1996-1999, the period when I discovered the use of layers, a concept inspired by fashion artist Romeo Gigli . The layering concept continued to develop in 2002, when I added three more languages: French, Objiway, and English during my stay in Canada. This particular work -a triptych of six layers was donated to Algoma Art Gallery of Ontario.
